Québécois dans son habitat naturel

Hi There!

I own an M.Sc. in computer graphics and machine learning from McGill University and Mila. I specialized in physically based animation for computer graphics and machine learning. My goal is to do research and development at the intersection of those two fields to contribute to shaping the future of visual effects software utilizing the state of the art in machine learning.

I have worked in the Visual Effects industry for the first decade of my career. I spent the last years of this decade working as a Senior Effects Technical Director and Tool Developer in multiple major studios. I later transitioned to R&D Software Developer roles at Ubisoft La Forge and in the simulation group at Nvidia.

I love to find elegant solutions to complex problems and always try to make things as simple and efficient as possible while maximizing flexibility. Artists should not worry about what is happening under the hood while they create; it should just feel like magic!

Work Experience

I started my career in visual effects working in commercials as a generalist. I later transitioned to feature animation, where I worked as a Lighting Artist/TD and Compositor. I did a quick stop in games working on pre-rendered cinematic, doing more FX/simulation work. From then on, I mostly worked on physically based animation using Houdini in feature films. I worked for several major studios, including Digital Domain Vancouver, Method Studios Montréal, and Industrial Light and Magic London. During the last years, I was mainly developing tools and workflows to enhance the efficiency and capability of FX departments. I then transitioned to a more software-oriented role, where I worked on a real-time fluid simulation prototype at Ubisoft La Forge. A year later, I worked on a multi-GPU liquid solver in the simulation technology group at Nvidia under the supervision of Ken Museth.

Education

I have completed an M.Sc. in computer graphics and machine learning at McGill University and Mila. I also own a B.Sc. in computer science and mathematics from the University of Montréal. Before studying science, I studied graphic design at the Cégep de Sherbrooke and have done one year at the Centre NAD in 3D animation and visual effects.

Skills and Interests

I am passionate about almost all technological advances that empower visual artists and creators. If you have a cool algorithm that produces shiny pixels, I'm in! Here is a quick peek at what I care about these days.
